In some cases you can learn a new MOS through either an Active Duty AIT or a Reserve Component school in your area. Old or new, these skills can improve your opportunities in the civilian job market. Professional development with your new unit can also enhance your opportunities for promotion with both your new unit and your civilian career.

CIVILIAN EDUCATION: Army National Guard offer opportunities and programs to help you reach your educational goals. Programs such as the Reserve Component GI Bill, the Student Loan Repayment Program, and others will help you pay for your education. The years of hard work you invested on active duty, along with your days of Guard service each year, will give you and your family that extra retirement security you deserve.

So, if you now have eight years of active duty you can get your 20 year retirement with only 432 days of military service.

ASSOCIATIONS AND FRIENDSHIPS: The people you meet in units are all members of the community: employees and employers. Friends who know the best fishing spot or where the jobs are. Membership in the Reserve Components will give you the opportunity to expand your network of friends and associates. Membership also allows you to join organizations that provide special low cost insurance and other services.

SERVICE TO COUNTRY AND COMMUNITY: When you join a Guard unit you will be able to continue to serve your country and community while you are fulfilling your won goals and career plans.
